Adoption Spotlight: Basil

“My boyfriend, John, and I had been talking about what to name our dog for the last nine years. He loved the name Basil, which we agreed would be the name of our second dog as I had picked out Goose since I was little. Our goal next year was to move into a bigger apartment where we could finally get a dog.

John passed away very unexpected in the beginning of June and my whole life was flipped upside down. A few days after the funeral, I decided to keep our promise of getting that dog and with the help of my family, stumbled upon a litter of “spice pups” (literally named after spices, one being Basil) and knew it was fate. Basil came into my life a few weeks after, after overcoming Parvo and a few other obstacles and immediately brought so much love and happiness into not only my life, but my entire family’s lives as everyone was going through tremendous loss.

To say Basil has been a blessing is a giant understatement. He has helped me get through the worst days imaginable just by being there. I couldn’t have pictured a more perfect pup and am so thankful for him everyday. He is the friendliest dog I have every met, literally befriending every dog and human we come across. He willingly joins me everywhere I bring him and I’m extremely lucky to have found this guy.”

Adoption Spotlight: Thor

“Recently my husband and I had to put our 12 1/2 year old boy, Dante down. Our little family was completely shattered without him. Our 11 year old female, Roxy, was so lost; laying in his spots, following us around, and moping. Already so devastated over losing him, seeing her like this was unbearable.

One morning, I mentioned to my husband that our next dog needed to be a puppy. Dante had been my first ever fur-baby and with me since 8 weeks old. I realized after losing him that getting a puppy and doing it all over again just felt right. BUT only if we could adopt from a rescue, so figured it might take some time. Then like fate, he pulls up Strong Paws Rescue’s current foster puppies and the little tan male had such a strong resemblance to my precious Dante I was immediately was drawn to him. My husband sensed this and the next thing I know, Meagan is reaching out to me saying he was available and if we wanted to meet him she would make it happen.

Long story short, we ended up adopting him a week later! This little boy (whom we renamed Thor) has provided so much healing for all of us. Roxy immediately took to him and she has been playing like a young pup again! The light is back in her eyes and I couldn’t be happier about that. He’s extremely affectionate, smart and so goofy. We’ve been having lots of cuddles and laughter at his puppy antics. I wasn’t expecting to adopt this quickly, so I know our boy Dante had a paw in making this happen-because it’s truly what we all needed. I will ALWAYS miss and cherish Dante but at least my heart ache has been soothed. I cannot thank Strong Paws Rescue enough for allowing us to adopt; returning the smiles to our faces and joy in all our lives.”

Adoption Spotlight: Turbo & Tiny

“Turbo & Tiny are the sweetest dogs. They have had such a positive impact in my life since they moved in. Aside from being the chief home greeters, they are also my sous chefs. Both love to watch me cook and are always eager to taste test too! The pair is also very social and always say hello to everyone who passes.

Their latest thrill on our daily walks include catching up with our neighborhood squirrels. They are very interested in what those squirrels are gathering. Aside from our outdoor activities, before I got them, I wondered which would be the ‘cuddler’ and who would prefer their alone time. Ends up when it’s late and we settle onto the couch to catch up on TV, they both love to sit as close as they can. I always wondered if I could handle 2 dogs and it ended up being the best decision!”
